George Williams Fulcher, Fulcher's Poetical Miscellany. 2nd Edition. (London: Suttaby & Co.; Sudbury: G.W. Fulcher, 1841)
Information about the collection: Published under the title "Poems from Fulcher's Ladies' Memorandum Book, and Poetical Miscellany," first edition 1831. There is no preface, and no biographical, critical, or bibliographic information given, though there are engravings interspersed throughout the volume: e.g. Clare Priory; Schombergh House, where Gainsborough died; Ballingdon Grove, near Sudbury, the residence of E. Allen, esq.; Lyston Hall, Essex, seat of Richard Lambert, esq.; View of the Deben; Chilton Dell, near Sudbury. The dimensions of the volume are that of a pocket book and thus quite small. The name of the author is printed after the title and before the poem itself. Again, the ordering appears to be random (i.e. it is not done by chronology or subject) and the collection seems to be a good example of a miscellany.
Advertisement to the Second Edition:
The early numbers of the Sudbury Pocket Book having been frequently
enquired for, by many who were desirous of possessing the Book from its
commencement in 1825, the Publisher has endeavoured to meet the wish of
his friends by forming the present selection from the Original Poetry,
which has appeared in it during the seventeen years it has been before
the public. With one or two exceptions the Poems were written expressly
for the Sudbury Pocket Book, and as several of them have been noticed with
approbation in some of the leading Periodicals, it is hoped that it will
not be considered as attaching undue importance to the little work in which
they first appeared, by presenting them collectively in their present form.
Sudbury, Suffolk, May 6, 1841.
