Texts, Course Work. Texts:
individual volumes of the Pelican Shakespeare or The Complete
Pelican Shakespeare. Attendance and participation in discussion
sections required (no more than one unexcused absence). Any
student who has not made an arrangement with his or her section
leader and is absent from the assigned discussion section
in the first week of class will be dropped from the course
if there are other students waiting for the place. Written
work and grading. Topics for the two papers will be provided.
Papers are due at the START of lecture on the days indicated.
Late submissions will be penalized one full grade (e.g. B
becomes C); after one week late papers will be penalized two
full grades. There will be a quiz on each play, but no midterm
exam. The final exam will take place on Monday, December 8,
from 8 to 11 am and will be given only on this day and at
this time.
Grading:
Sections (attendance and participation): 10%
Shorter paper: 15%
Longer paper: 30%
Quizzes: 20% (best four quizzes counted)
Final exam, 25%.
